A gas or fluid pressure sensor that gives out electrical signals at different pressure levels or currents. The sensor head is usually fabricated with a thin film that bends differently at different pressure levels. The bends can be measured by changes in electrical resistance levels or electrical charges.
Surface micromachining was originally employed to develop this type of pressure sensor for applications in the automobile industry and blood pressure sensor. It is subsequently applied to the development of silicon microphone and interface circuits that results in a silicon microphone integrated circuit.
