Raknam

RakNam : A Prediction and Scenario-based System for Saltwater Intrusio.

Bangkok metropolis and its vicinity largely rely on the Chao Phraya River in supplying the freshwater. The salinity in the Chao Phraya River is controlled by ocean tides and river discharge thus the interplay between these two factors is crucial in determining the availability of freshwater. Besides, the surges can play an essential role in the enhancement of the salinity concentration during the monsoon seasons.

The saltwater intrusion is intensified in the dry season when the demand of fresh water is excessively high affecting various sectors including agriculture, industry and waterworks. The decision support system, RakNam, which includes the saltwater intrusion forecasting and scenario-based planning capabilities, has been developed to help decision makers make critical decisions on the timing of the availability of freshwater in the Chao Phraya River. Specifically, modeling of riverine-coastal ocean hydrodynamics and mass transport process, investigating the regional and local saltwater dynamics in the area, designing an effective assimilation scheme and developing a supporting web-application have been established.

R-Monitor
Provides a single window for saltwater intrusion related data including water quality parameters, rainfalls, discharges and tides
R-Forecast
Gives high-fidelity seven-day salinity and tides forecasts, updated daily

Vaja 8.0 : A Thai/English Text-to-speech Commercialized Software https://www.nectec.or.th/en/innovation/service-innovation/vaja8.html Sun, 25 Jul 2021 05:53:58 +0000 https://www.nectec.or.th/en/?p=17178

Vaja 8.0 : A Thai/English Text-to-speech Commercialized Software

Spoken language is the most common communication tool used in daily life. Without laying eyes on a monitor or screen, speech technology helps synthesizing human-like sounds to transfer massage from a device to perceivers. Text-to-speech synthesis system are the practical intermediate tool for controlling a synthesizer. Using only a chuck of text, the system can generate synthetic sounds to commute with subjects, for example using a text for an automatic announcement system, which is more flexible than using a prior recorded speech.

Vaja 8.0 is the newest version (2018) of Thai/English text to speech synthesizer from NECTEC. It can give speech in two voices, female and male. It comprises of all three new reengineered parts. The whole system is reorganized to be able to work as plug-in modules. All parts are able to be replaced by any up-coming engine or language. In terms of technical challenges, text pre-processing part uses syllable-like unit in text segmentation instead of word. The grapheme to phoneme conversion part uses the new grapheme to phoneme conversion (G2P 3.0) which is a fully machine-learning module instead of using syllable-pattern dictation. Finally, speech synthesizer part uses linguistics information for storing and retrieving HMM models from a tree. The product is bundled and available on both Linux and Windows.

Software features:

  • Output: Thai/English synthetic reading speech
  • Text pre-processing: module for reading from dictation is available.
  • Speech quality sounds closer to human speech compared to that from previous version
  • Voice modification: able to tune volume and speed
  • API: UI and library
  • Voice:
    • Name: Nok (female), A (male)
    • Language: Bilingual
    • Sample type: PCM, 44,100 Hz, 16 bits, Mono
    • Style: reading speech

Hardware requirement

  • Operating system: Windows 7, Windows 8.1, Windows 10
  • RAM: 1 GB or higher
  • Available storage space: 100 MB or higher
  • Sound card: General sound card

Examples of VAJA ver. 2- 8

Software specification:

  • Supported APIs
  • Provide text pre-processing tool such as grapheme-to-phoneme conversion

Application:

  • Able to be plugged-in to IVR system
  • Able to read e-book, email, or documents

OGDaaS : Open Government Data as a Service Platform https://www.nectec.or.th/en/innovation/service-innovation/ogdaas.html Sun, 25 Jul 2021 05:48:06 +0000 https://www.nectec.or.th/en/?p=17166

OGDaaS : Open Government Data as a Service Platform

What is OGDaaS?

The Open Government Data as a Service Platform (OGDaaS) is a cloud-based platform that creates data APIs and services from existing datasets in open government data portals. The platform creates RESTFul Web API for every dataset validated as well-formed tabular data. The API creation process is automatic and requires no intervention from data publisher. The data APIs allows application developers to query and aggregate data in the datasets in a dynamic fashion. The platform also promotes the datasets to 4-star open data, i.e., RDF format. This creates opportunities for creating linked open government data in future phase. The platform also provides self-service data querying and reporting applications to improve accessibility and engagement of open government data for the citizens.

Winner of Thailand ICT Awards (TICTA) 2017 in Government & Public Sector Category

Innovation Statement
  • Decentralized and scalable architecture (cloud-based service)
  • Built on RDF standard (4-star open data)
  • Self-serviced data querying and report generation
Functions
  • Automatic RESTful data APIs creation from spreadsheets
  • Dataset validation
  • RDF data generation
  • Query and report generation application
  • API transaction log

Target Customers:

DS-RMS : Dam Safety Remote Monitoring System https://www.nectec.or.th/en/innovation/service-innovation/dsrms.html Sat, 24 Jul 2021 06:55:16 +0000 https://www.nectec.or.th/en/?p=17054

DS-RMS : Dam Safety Remote Monitoring System

Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) has currently owned fourteen large dams constructed for irrigation, flood prevention, power generation and so forth. In order to ensure dam safety, EGAT has monitored dam behavior through its dam safety program since 1982 and has been improving the processes according to the international standards, one of which was to initiate an automated Dam Safety Remote Monitoring System (DS-RMS) in 2013. DS-RMS is a collaborative project among EGAT, Geotechnical Engineering Research and Development Center – Kasetsart University (GERD-KU), and National Electronics and Computer Technology Center (NECTEC). The main objective is to automate conventional acquisition of safety-related measurements so that comprehensive information are remotely obtained in realtime. Fourteen dams across the country and the central office are equipped with reliable remote terminal units (RTUs), communication links, computer servers and advanced monitoring software as shown in Fig. 1 and 2.

Measured dam behavior data is processed and displayed in various views and axis combinations such as Plan View, Section View, Time History and Cause and Effect for easy interpretation and analysis. Apart from online monitoring, the measurements from both automatic and manual dam behavior, hydrometeorological and seismic instruments are utilized by the Expert System to provide concerned staff with relevant prediction, guidance and warning about possible failures. The system will reassure EGAT and the nearby public especially the downstream communities that the safety-related conditions of the dams are thoroughly monitored.

Benefit

Measurements from 14 dams across the country can be monitored and analyzed continuously and remotely. Early and preventive actions can be conducted to prevent further serious failures.
