การถามเวลาที่ใช้ในภาษาพูด   
1.Do you have time?     
2.What time do you make it?
การถามเวลาอย่างสุภาพ
1.What's the now?
2.Have you got the time?            
3.what time is it?                
4.Could/can you tell me the time please?      
5.Would you mind telling the time?
 

การบอกเวลา (Telling the time)
1.ถ้าจะบอกเวลาเต็มๆชั่วโมง ให้ใช้คำว่า "o'clock" ตามหลังเวลาที่จะบอกเสมอ เช่น
 It's six o'clock.  มันเป็นเวลาหกโมงเช้า/เย็น
2.การบอกเวลาที่มีเศษนาทีในกรณีที่ไม่เกิน 30 นาที ให้ใช้ "past" นำหน้าชั่วโมงในขณะนั้น
รูปแบบ  เศษนาที  +  past  +  ชั่วโมงขณะนั้น เช่น
9.25 = It's twenty-five past nine.                     8.19 = It's nineteen past eight.
3.การบอกเวลาที่มีเศษนาทีในกรณีที่เกิน30นาที ให้ใช้ "to" นำหน้าเวลาที่จะถึง
รูปแบบ  60-เศษนาทีที่ให้มา +  to  +  ชั่วโมงที่จะถึง เช่น
10.40 = It's twenty to eleven.                          11.55 = It's five to twelve.
4.การบอกเวลาที่เศษนาทีเท่ากับ 15 นาที
รูปแบบ  a quarter past  +  ชั่วโมงในขณะนั้น เช่น
3.15 = It's a quarter past three.
ถ้าเศษนาทีเท่ากับ 45 นาที
รูปแบบ a quarter to  +  ชั่วโมงที่จะถึง เช่น
 5.45 = It's a quarter to six.
5.การบอกเวลาที่เศษนาทีเท่ากับ 30 นาทีให้ใช้ "half  past"
รูปแบบ half past  +  ชั่วโมงในขณะนั้น เช่น
7.30 = It's half past seven. 
6.การบอกเวลาตามตัวเลขบนหน้าปัดนาฬิกา เช่น
2.15 = It's two fifteen.                                       3.25 = It's three twenty-five.           
                                                                                                                                         

หมายเหตุ เราอาจใช้ a.m.และ p.m.ในการบอกเวลาโดยมีกฎเกณฑ์ ดังนี้
a.m. = ante meridium ใช้ในการบอกเวลาตั้งแต่เที่ยงคืนถึงเที่ยงวัน 
p.m. = past meridium ใช้ในการบอกเวลาตั้งแต่เที่ยงวันถึงเที่ยงคืน
ตัวอย่างเช่น
9 โมงเช้า ใช้ว่า 9.00 a.m.
3  ทุ่ม ใช้ว่า 9.00 p.m.    
6 โมง 20 นาที ในตอนเช้า ใช้ว่า 6.20 a.m.          
6 โมง 20 นาที ในตอนเย็น ใช้ว่า 6.20 p.m.           
7 โมง 30 นาที ในตอนเช้า ใช้ว่า 7.30 a.m.          
1 ทุ่มครึ่ง ใช้ว่า 7.30 p.m.

คำศัพท์ที่เกี่ยวข้องกับเวลา
1.the face of the clock หรือ      
   the dial หรือ
   the clock's face = หน้าปัดนาฬิกา
2.the short hand หรือ   
   the hour - hand (H.H)  = เข็มสั้น
3.the long hand หรือ
   the minute - hand (M.H.) = เข็มยาว
4.the second - hand (S.H.) =เข็มวินาที
5.clock (c.n.) = an instrument in a room, an office or the outside of
 a building that shows what time of day is it. (นาฬิกา)
6.alarm clock (C.N.) = a clock that you can set to make a moise
 so that it wakes you up at aparticerlar time. (นาฬิกาปลุก)
7.watch = a small clock that you wear on your wrist or carry
 in your pocket. (นาฬิกาข้อมือ)
