พืช c3 C4
The path of carbon fixation in C3, C4 plants.

The leaf of a C4 plant is very different from that of a C3 leaf. In a C3 leaf, carbon dioxide is taken up by widely spaced cells, which pass it to the vascular bundles. In a C4 leaf, by contrast, CO2 is taken up by similar cells, which incorporate it into C4 compounds. These C4 compounds then pass inward to the bundle-sheath cells, which surround the veins, and release carbon dioxide there. Because these cells are relatively impermeable to carbon dioxide, this process can build up high carbon dioxide concentrations in the bundle-sheath cells, which carry out the Calvin cycle.
