The Calvin cycle

For every three molecules of carbon dioxide that enter the cycle, one molecule of the three-carbon compound glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate is produced. Notice that the process requires energy, supplied as ATP and NADPH. ATP and NADPH are generated by the light reactions.

Summary

Photosystem 1 : the first photosynthetic pathway to evolve, in it, energy is transferred to a molecule of chlorophyll a called p700,which then acts as the photosystem,s reaction center. Photosystem 1, along with hydrogen ions, reduces NADP+ to NADPH.

Photosystem 2 : a photosynthetic pathway in which energy is transferred to a molecule of chlorophyll a called p680, which then acts as the photosystem,s reaction center. Energized electrons ejected from photosystem 2 are passed down an electron transport chain, triggering events of ATP production.

Carbon fixation : a process by which organisms use the ATP and NADPH produced by light photosynthetic reactions to build organic molecules from atmospheric carbon dioxide.

Calvin cycle : another name for the light reactions that take place during photosynthesis.
