How to Dial-up to K12

 

Dial-up Installation: Window 95

Dial-up Networking (DUN) is the Microsoft 32-bit networking system which is bundled with Win95. The native TCP/IP of Win95 use the PPP protocol to run applications such as Netscape and Eudora. The advantage of using the Win95 TCP/IP is that it allows you to run 32-bit applications.

The following steps are for installing the native TCP/IP of Window 95.

Step 1 - Add Modem

  1. Click on START, SETTINGS, CONTROL PANEL
  2. Double-click on MODEM icon
  3. Click on ADD button
  4. Click on NEXT button, modem will be detected
  5. Click FINISH button. Modem will now be installed.
  6. Click on CLOSE button

Step 2 - Install Dial-up Networking

  1. Click on START, SETTINGS, CONTROL PANEL
  2. Double-click on ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS
  3. Click on WINDOWS SETUP tab
  4. Click on COMMUNICATIONS then DETAILS
  5. Check the Checkbox that says DIAL-UP NETWORKING
  6. Click OK on all menus all the way back to the control panel
    (you may be asked to specify a name for your PC)
  7. Dial-up Networking will now be installed in the My Computer folder
  8. Restart your PC

Step 3 - Add TCP/IP

  1. Click on START, SETTINGS, CONTROL PANEL
  2. Double click on NETWORK
  3. Click on ADD, then PROTOCOL, then ADD
  4. Select MICROSOFT as the manufacturer, then TCP/IP as the protocol
  5. Click OK on all menus back to the Control Panel
  6. TCP/IP will now be installed
  7. Restart your PC

Step 4 - Set up your K12 access icon

  1. Click on START, PROGRAMS, ACCESSORIES,
    then DIAL-UP NETWORKING
  2. Double click on MAKE NEW CONNECTION icon
  3. Enter "SchoolNet@1509" (Computer you are dialing). Click on NEXT
  4. In Area code box, enter area code (such as 02)
  5. In Telephone number, enter telephone number (1509).
  6. Change Country Code to "Thailand(66)".
  7. Click on NEXT. Click on FINISH. You now have the SchoolNet@1509 icon.
  8. Click on the SchoolNet@1509 icon. Click FILE, PROPERTIES
  9. Click on SERVER TYPE
  10. Uncheck "Log on to network", "Enable software compression", NetBEUI, and "IPX/SPX Compatible"
  11. Select "PPP: windows95, windowsNT, Internet" in type of dialup server
  12. Click on TCP/IP Settings
  13. Check the "Server assigned IP address" and "Specify name server addresses" checkboxes
  14. Set the Primary DNS 202.44.204.36, Secondary DNS 202.44.204.63
  15. Click on OK until back at Dial-up Networking. TCP/IP is now set up.

Each time you login, several steps are completed before you can use your graphical applications:

  1. Double-click on the "My Computer" icon.
  2. Double-click on Dial-Up Networking.
  3. Double-click on SchoolNet@1509.
  4. Enter your username and your password. Click the Connect button to dial
  5. Press F7 or click the Continue button to start PPP on your PC
  6. A "Connected to..." status box should appear
  7. Start your graphical applications.
  8. After closing all applications, quit by clicking the DISCONNECT button.
