Image Technology Laboratory (IMG)

Imaging technologies are embedded in many forms of product such as digital still camera, digital video camera, CCTV, webcam, document and film scanners, and X-ray scanner. At IMG Laboratory, various research topics are being carried out to apply practical and beneficial imaging technologies for industrial as well as domestic users.

The current research focus

  1. Intelligent Transportation Systems
  2. Medical Imaging
  3. Multimedia Understanding

Product

  • Arnthai 3.0 Linux alpha version : a new alpha release of Thai OCR (Thai Optical Character Recognition) software on Linux platform. The previous version 2.5 was released in 2004 with accuracy of 95%.
  • Image processing software for traffic video data : a software that currently embedded within various systems, including 2007 Song Kran traffic report project under NSTDA's ITS cluster. The software determines speed, count, and type of passing vehicles from various traffic video sources.
  • DentiPlan : a software for dental implant surgery planning. It allows implant surgery simulation using multi-planar dental images from X-Ray CT scanner. The simulation assists determination of implant position and angle to avoid contact with nerve canals as well as to optimise implant lifetime.
  • Dental X-Ray CT scanner : utilises cone-beam laser technology to obtain cross sectional images of human organs. The scanner development involves scanner gantry hardware design, interfaces for X-ray control and exposures, and software interfaces for image acquisition and display.
  • License Plate Recognition(LPR) program : a software that deployed image processing and character recognition technologies to automatically read vehicle license plate. It reduce waiting time as well as number of staff at the entrance of the parking lot or access control area.
