NECTEC actively collaborates to move ASEAN’s microelectronics and ICT

Dr. Kalaya Udomvitid, Deputy Executive Director of NECTEC, was a Thailand representative attended the 51st Meeting of the ASEAN Sub-Committee on Microelectronics and Information Technology (SCMIT-51) on 16 October 2023 at Bohol, the Philippines.

The Meeting was attended by delegates from Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR., Malaysia (online), Myanmar, the Philippines, and Vietnam.

The meeting agreed and confidence that SCMIT would be an important sub-committee for ASEAN Committee on Science, Technology and Innovation (COSTI) under the current global trend of digital transformation in which digital technology within SCMIT’s expertise is the key. SCMIT should contribute and collaborate actively to move ASEAN’s microelectronics and ICT forward through sharing, accelerating, and strengthening regional collaboration.

In this connection, Dr. Kalaya presented the progress of Thailand National AI Strategy.

Furthermore, Thailand proposed project “ASEAN-EU Workshop on AI Ecosystem” of which it has been supported by the meeting. Thailand also proposed project  “Learning technologies with KidBright Platform” and it has been endorsed by the meeting. These 2 projects will be a new initiatives to SCMIT.

More than that, the meeting discussed on the plans of SCMIT which included:

  1. National initiatives which can be elevated to the ASEAN Level.
  2. Developing ASEAN’s Capabilities in industry 4.0, IOT and SMART Technology
  3. 5G and Beyond
  4. Artificial intelligence and advanced commuting
  5. Manufacturing on semiconductors

All SCMIT focal points put strong effort to be the core sub-committee under COSTI and no left one behind in the digital transformation in the region.
