SIAM KUBOTA partners up with NECTEC-NSTDA to develop Thailand’s first-ever rice crop calendar application. https://www.nectec.or.th/en/about/news/kas-kubota-nectec.html Fri, 30 Jul 2021 12:01:40 +0000 https://www.nectec.or.th/en/?p=19387

Reinforcing its leadership in agricultural innovation, SIAM KUBOTA Corporation Company Limited has collaborated with the National Electronics and Computer Technology Center (NECTEC-NSTDA) to develop KAS Crop Calendar application, a rice crop calendar application powered by KUBOTA Agri Solution. Catering specifically to Thai farmers, the application serves as an agricultural knowledge bank and is equipped with a vast array of functions, including notifications for different tasks in the crop calendar, income and expense accounts, and summary reports, to maximize rice cultivation efficiency. The application is now available for download.

Dr. Chai Wutiwiwatchai, Director of the National Electronics and Computer Technology Center (NECTEC-NSTDA), said, “NECTEC conducts research and development projects integrating knowledge and technology from various disciplines to strengthen Thailand’s industrial capabilities and innovate technologies that benefit people at large. One of its goals is to create agricultural technology for precision farming and smart farming as its widespread adoption can improve farming efficiency for Thai farmers and enhance the competitive of Thai brands on international levels. This year, NECTEC-NSTDA has planned to extend its smart farming plans nationwide by embarking on collaborative projects with its allies to create beneficial inventions, the most recent of which is the co-development of KAS Crop Calendar application with SIAM KUBOTA, which will serve as a tool that helps Thai farmers maximize their farming efficiency.”

In discussing the development of KAS Crop Calendar application, Mr. Somsak Mauthorn, Senior Executive Vice President of SIAM KUBOTA Corporation Co., Ltd., said that last year SIAM KUBOTA developed www.kubotasolutions.com as a source of knowledge for farmers and the general public and as a channel for the company to present different techniques on agricultural machinery management. The website contains rice cultivation information in the form of a calendar to help farmer clearly visualize their tasks, the use of agricultural machinery to maximize the efficiency at every step in the process, as well as knowledge and cultivation techniques for various plants compiled from governmental agencies and educational institutes with research expertise in these areas.

“SIAM KUBOTA strives to reinforce its leadership in agricultural innovation for the future. The company recognizes that crop calendars are a key piece of agricultural knowledge and has thus developed how its crop calendar is displayed to help bring about maximum farming efficiency. To increase access to its crop calendar, it has co-developed KAS Crop Calendar application with the National Electronics and Computer Technology Center (NECTEC-NSTDA). As a co-developer and consultant, the company has equipped the mobile application with various functionalities, such as notifications for each step in the farming process in the crop calendar, from soil preparation, transplantation, plant care, harvesting to post-harvesting management. In addition, users may add or customize tasks in their crop calendar to better suit their cultivation area or personal techniques. In addition, the application also has an income and expense account to help farmers keep tracks of their income and spending in each stage in their crop calendar, which can assist them in eliminating unnecessary expenses and increasing income for their next cultivation cycle. The application also provides a summary report showing overall details of each growing cycle, such as the start and finish dates of each cycle, all the cultivation stages, all incomes and expenses, and the output of that cycle. This summary report will enable farmers to maximize their farming efficiency,” added Mr. Somsak.

KAS Crop Calendar application is now available for download for all iOS and Android smart phones.

The using of international cooperation mechanism is comparable to Doko-demo-Door which unlocks the door to realization of R&D on electronics and computer. Most of all, it will be an accelerator as a springboard for Thailand’s economic growth jumping out of Middle Income Trap. The eight topics of mutual interests from this workshop are as follows:

  • Silicon Photonics
  • Wireless Network
  • Cyber Security
  • Terahertz Technology
  • ICT for Marginalized Area
  • Towards Social Deployment of Advanced ICT
  • Brain-Machine Interfaces / Robotics
  • Neuroimaging Technology

Concurrently, NECTEC organized the NECTEC Annual Conference and Exhibition 2017 (NECTEC-ACE 2017) under the theme “Practical R&D: Innovation Springboard” at QSNCC. Dr.Fumihiko Tomita also delivered a keynote speech during “Smart Technology in Asia for Driving Future Economy” session on the topic of “More Healthy and Sophisticated Smart Systems – Charming ICT for Potential Users” to the public and interested audiences in this event. Seventeen NICT researchers and staffs visited exhibition booths and attended the workshop, the largest NICT delegation official visit to Thailand and NECTEC ever.
